5 Questions with Poli Stefano

1. Hi, can you introduce yourself?

Hello everyone, my name is Poli Stefano. I am a chef at an Italian restaurant. I have had a passion for cooking since as long as I can remember. Being very careful about nature and the environment has always been important to me. That’s why I’m constantly searching for the best solutions to live sustainably.

2. Tell us more about your brand, and the contribution to the Sustainability movement it’s making.

Our brand was born from a lifetime passion for sustainable living. I always advocate for minimizing consumerism, for finding eco-friendly solutions at my restaurant – so as to minimize waste and avoid single-use plastic. Together with my family and friends, we do regular beach clean-ups. I would always think it is much easier and better in the long term, if we all just find ways to replace plastic with more eco-friendly products. That is the main idea behind Zero Plastic HK – to give customers this alternative, in the most convenient and approachable way possible. We are sourcing the best biogradable, compostable, plastic-free products, made from bamboo, sugarcane, PLA and other eco-friendly materials.

3. What was the main reason for you to start your company?

Firstly, the main goal of ZeroPlastic HK is not to become a big business, but to reach our goal of helping to save our planet for future generations. A substantial part of our profit will be going towards sustainability and charitable projects. It is not only about making sure our kids are able to live in an unpolluted and healthy environment, and to be able to swim in the sea where there are plenty of fish. Our responsibility is also to provide equal opportunity for those kids, who don’t have any. That is why the charity we support is an education project for children in Cameroon.

4. Who is your inspiration?

My daughter is my inspiration. Every time I look at her, I think “why is it, that she has no right to enjoy the planet the way I enjoyed it”. When I was a kid I would go to a clean, unpolluted beach. I would breathe fresh air and was able to enjoy the purest our nature could offer. Why then, can’t our kids have the same? That’s why when I look at her, I want to do as much as possible to save this planet. Otherwise with the way it is going now, generations to come won’t have a bright future. It is time to take an action. You should do whatever is possible to solve the problem, otherwise you are part of the problem.

5. The biggest piece of advice you can give to anyone who wants to live eco-friendly?

The biggest piece of advice I can give – radically change the way you live. Quit the single use plastic – a million plastic bottles are bought around the Globe every minute! Change it. Eat sustainably – reduce the waste and shop locally. Make any small change in your day to day life you can, because it matters.
